I'm a professional musician and play Steel Guitar, Dobro, Saxophone & Flute. Was the Horn section leader and Sax player for Percy Sledge March 2, 2010 played Dobro for Essra Mohawk's (worked with Frank Zappa & Jerry Garcia) showcase. March 3, 2010 Played on Bruce Brown's (lead guitar and band leader for Charlie Daniels) showcase. Dec 19, 2009 and wrote 42 Horn charts for the performance. Session Leader and Co-Producer for Adam Fisher on his CD recording session which was produced by Stella Parton, project was picked up by Lofton Creek Records. Perfromed at Summer NAMM show in Nashville, TN for Morrell Music showcasing their line of Lap Steels. One of the best CD projects I've had the pleasure to work on was TG Sheppard's newest project "19 Nashville Freinds" the link to see the video of the making of this project is http://www.19nashvillefriends.com, check it out! Played on Nokie Edwards last CD project, Nokie is otherwise known best for being the band leader and lead guitar player for the Ventures ("Pipline" "Walk Don't Run" "Wipeout"),of course Nokie sounded great! Played on DJ Fontana's new project, BTW, DJ played drums for a guy by the name of Elvis! Played at the Nashville 2007 CRS show with Kevin Sharp playing steel guitar. Worked on a project that featured a couple of solos by Steve Lukather, the guitarist with the group "TOTO." I worked on Steel guitar, Dobro, Sax and Flute on a 3 CD project for Tommy Overstreet entitled "Country Gospel Favorites."This project was nominated for a Grammy and is currently available at Walmart. One of the best sessions I played on was a session for Jack Clement that featured Louis Armstrong as the singer, these were tracks that Jack had cut on Louis before he died. I've worked with Tyler Dean (Ronnie McDowel's son) on his new project for CURB Records playing Steel Guitar & Dobro. I worked on T.G. Sheppard's last CD project entitled "Timeless" which features myself playing with Wayne Jackson (Memphis horns). I have played Steel Guitar on projects that featured such artists as Merle Haggard, George Jones, Glen Campbell and Crystal Gayle. In 1991 I played for Hank Williams, Jr., on the "Lone Wolf Tour" ( and lived! ). Currently I'm playing Sax and Steel Guitar with a 23 piece big band called "Radio Daze," the band web site is: www.radiodazebigband.com I also do quite a bit of video and TV work in and around Nashville & Atlanta.

Summer NAMM show in Nashville 2009

Posted on July 30, 2009 at 10:41pm 0 Comments

This years SUMMER NAMM SHOW 2009held at the NASHVILLE CONVENTION CENTER was a rousing success, I feel. The company I represent demonstrated their high quality line of instruments. Some major vendors where absent as in Peavy, Gibson and Fender, but hey, made room for the rest to sell and party, sell & party we did!

Our booth was #1248 with the whole Morrell crew from Bristol, TN and the awesome instruments. The performances on Lap Steel and Dobro… Continue

Thank you Judy Whiting and Lilac Moon Productions for the unbelievable Morrell Lap Steel Endorsement that I recently received. So miracles do happen also in this business of music. People like you validate the very nucleolus of the meaning of my artistic value, and musicianship. Your hard work, telephone calls, emails, time consuming creative planning… Continue

John,
I enjoyed meeting you last evening at the LHJ. You sounded great, and that vivid blue maple guitar is strikingly gorgeous. It really has to be seen firsthand, to get the full effect.
I wish I could have stayed long enough to hear you play your sax. I saw this vid last night > http://www.youtube.com/user/johnsaxsteel#p/u/4/bgCXSeDXyQA
I absolutely loved the teaser clip on "Chaunlateea" . I want to get that CD soon. That stuff is right up my alley. I've always loved solo sax, and (sorta) secretly always wanted to play one. As a teen, I had a 45 rpm of "Arthurs Theme" (Christopher Cross)
I wore that sax solo spot out, over and over, until it sounded like an early, original Edison wax recording.
And you're right, "it's all about the melody". Good work, best of every thing to you, and please keep in touch.

Your pal, Dale

PS: This is a little embarrassing to admit. But, because I haven't been on here (SGN) all that much lately, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that you were already included in my relatively puny 'Friends' roster.

the studio and on live performances are awesome.Couldn't do it without you!
Summer Namm show with Morrell Music Comp, all the videos, the sessions

me, TG SHEPPARD, STELLA PARTON, RAZZY BAILEY, DIXIANNA STUDIOS,
Phil Lister, Mark Mosley, Sound Contol, Emi, and the many other places we
work ALL OF US SAY ONE THING my friend. KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING and we love you for it. So also says,JIM VEST, Perly Curtis, our friend
LYNN OWSLEY, Bill Stafford and the list goes on.
That steel guitar, the dobro and the lap steel you perfom on makes lots of real
pleased and our clients are pleased. You are the best at what you do
Here is a quote from songwriter producer BARRY BECKETT "John makes
the Steel Guitar bleed with feeling, so important in recording, He is the
Instrument"
Barry was a personal friend and biz associate, his loss is still felt here in our
Nashville Community and I will leave you today with his quote as it sums
up what all of us feel about your playing.
